AXIS ADVENTURES ROCK CLIMBING PROGRAMS

Climbing is about the mind, body and soul.  In the vertical plain we must combine all attributes, weather we are training with a goal in mind, or spending time gaining the experience to make sound decisions. Our programs are designed to complement our guest’s abilities and desires. To excel personally in the vertical arena together we must have a complete understanding of the inherent risks and outcomes of each situation.  These risks are assessed based on climbing goals and decision processes, which ultimately leads to a successful climbing experience. Axis Adventures will consult with each individual to provide the best program application to meet one’s goals and desires.

Axis Adventures Rock Climbing

Levels of Training and Learning Objectives

Axis Adventures curriculum of instruction is progressive by design.  We have established our training programs based on decades of experience and education.  The Climbing environment is progressive by nature and requires you to advance and achieve throughout your experience.  Experience leads to competency, which leads to confidence and ability. Our Rock Climbing programs are based on levels of training and experience.  This allows our guests to be placed in an appropriate tier and continue along a training path that will advance the individuals to meet his/her goals.

The traditional Climbing path leads a climber through Top Roping, to Lead Climber, and finally Leading Climbs.  In the following descriptions, you can establish your self based on your skills and experience.  Together we can facilitate your climbing aspirations.

TIER ONE

Typically for first time climbers.  We spend the day introducing basic climbing knots, equipment, techniques, and safety.  Our Instructors are committed to providing you with a complete understanding of the basics of Rock climbing.

One day program.

TIER TWO

In our Tier Two program, we focus our attention on the fundamentals of climbing.  We apply the basics learned in Tier One and re-enforce them with a more in-depth understanding in anchor systems, rope management, belaying techniques, knots and hitches.  Basic climbing techniques are required to move over stone effectively and efficiently.

Two day program.

TIER THREE

Top Roping systems are the foundation for almost all of our climbing adventures. Tier Three is were our guests gain the ability to become an independent climber.  Independence leads to practice, and practice and experience lead to competency and confidence,  while setting the individual up for the next levels of climbing.  We provide you with three days of instruction in anchors, rope systems, belay techniques, proper equipment application, and safe top rope systems.  Also, you will be provided ample time to climb on the top rope systems that you create yourself.  This also provides for you the confidence to climb on systems you and your partner set up.

TIER FIVE

Advance rock climbing focuses attention on leading and following for single pitch, multi-pitch trad climbs, or sport climbs.  We spend three days climbing in the traditional sense, “from the ground up”.  Our instructors focus  their attention on one’s ability to support the leader.  Key skills include rope and belay management techniques, gear placement and retrieval on the running belay system, route finding and rappelling.

Three day program.

TIER SIX

This section is all about leading the climb.  We now combine all of the fundamentals and skills that our guests have accumulated over the previous five tiers and apply them to the “Sharp and of the Rope.”  Axis will spend a minimum of three days working issues that confront the lead climber.  The art of leading is considering what your level of risk is at any moment.  There are a multitude of factors that contribute to risk.   As a lead climber, it is your responsibility to accept the risk and lead the climb comfortably and safely.  We will consider the following and apply them directly to your training evolution:  route finding, racking gear, placing gear, run-out situations, constructing belay systems, the running belay system, rappelling, and the mind set that is crucial to success.
